Allcourt Tennis Academy
ACTIVITIES
*All students must be exposed to 3 aspects of learning process: Instruction, Repetition and Competition
Private Lessons
Private lessons are crucial to each tennis player's overall development. A private lesson gives a coach the opportunity to work on a student's strokes as well as developing their game while taking into account their particular strengths and weaknesses. Individual instruction is recommended for all juniors of all levels. Though private lessons are important, they are not required. They do cost more than the drills, but the results are more immediate. There is no substitute for Private Lessons!
"QUINS"
This is a new form of instruction that we are offering to more advanced players where we take 5 students of equal age and ability in a small group lesson with a coach for an hour and a half. This is a form of drill session where the emphasis is repetition. This will also gives coaches a smaller group in which to develop advanced level strokes and strategies.
DRILL GROUPS
Drills are a way for players to hit a lot of balls in a short amount of time in match-simulated situations. There are a variety of drills used for each Tier level. As students progress through the Tiers, the drills become more difficult and more dependent on the skill level of each player. The Futures drills focus on teaching students the very basics of the game--scoring, positioning, etiquette, and developing the basic strokes and foundation. The Challengers drills begin with an emphasis on perfecting each student's stroke and then building on their consistency. As players prograss through the junior leagues, they ar eencouraged to participate in low level tournaments. The Qualifiers also emphasizes consistency, but on a much higher level. Students learn more advanced point patterns and start to develop strategy through mental training drills. All players are expected to persue state and sectional rankings. Students at the Grand Slam level are in pursuit of national and international rankings and are focused on college scholarships and the possibility of professional tournaments. These drill groups are focused on no more than 5 players at a time and are scheduled on an individual basis with one of the ATA High Performance Coaches. All drills focus on high intensity workouts and maximizing each player's ultimate potential.
MATCH-PLAY:
Match-play is used as a supplement to drills. Students are encouraged to use the skills, which have been emphasized in their drills so that they may become more automatic and consistent when they get into an actual match. On each Match-play day, students play full matches against other Tier Program students while coaches watch and comment on the play. It is extremely beneficial to each player's overall development.
TOURNAMENT TRAVEL GROUPS
We organize "Tournament Travel Groups" for players of all ability levels. In addition to several Satellite (unranked) tournaments, we also attend all of the State Championship tournaments held in Georgia, all of the Southern Designateds, all Sectional and National tournaments in which students qualify for entry and several other Championship tournaments. Some tournaments' dates overlap so we may have more than one tournament travel group at a time. Each time a student participates in a travel group, they will receive daily warm-up sessions, pre-match strategy development, post-match evaluation, scouting reports and nutritional supervision.
JUNIOR LEAGUE PARTICIPATION (Junior ALTA and Junior USTA)
We are encouraging all students to participate in the Junior Leagues. Registration for Junior ALTA and/or Junior USTA teams take place up to 3 months prior to the start of each season. All academy participants will receive an application form with their monthly statement during each registration period as well as be reminded in the Allcourt Newsletter. The Coaching Staff will gladly assist in putting these teams together. Be sure to remember that rosters for these leagues are due very early. Fall and Spring ALTA rosters are due in July and December, respectively, while winter and Summer USTA rosters are due in October and April, respectively.
